Lustfaust, now that was a long time ago. My art school days. I always thought it was a shame they weren’t more sucessful. If they’d have been around a few years later I think they’d have been really popular. I first saw them at a punk showcase type thing at the Dacorum Pavilion. A friend who already knew about them insisted we go see them. I picked up a couple of tapes after the show and things went from there.
I used to listen to music constantly while I was drawing or painting so the covers developed fairly organically. Initially I made them specifically for each tape, but after a while I noticed that I had books full of little sketches doing nothing but taking up space so I started going through them looking for things to use. It was also in some part an exercise to improve the use of composition in my paintings.
I’m not sure I have a particular favourite album or tape but I think they were at their best when they were more primal and intuitive, I felt the later work was a bit indulgent and introspective. They lost their sparkle a little.
